'Minimalism' : A Documentary About The Important Things

The Thought Chapter Minimalism Review Shalee Rae.jpg

I discovered Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus (a duo who call themselves The Minimalists) only a short 4 weeks ago after listening to an interview with Joshua on the School of Greatness podcast. I was hooked. I have already played with de-cluttering this year after reading Marie Kondo but this was so much more. It was about clearing out the unwanted to live more deliberately. It was about mindset.

I soon had listened to all of their podcasts, their audio book on Audible and finally my boyfriend and I sat down and watched their documentary called 'Minimalism: A Documentary about the Important Things'. Now we were both hooked. Our mindset about money has changed, our home has changed, the way we purchase has changed and most important of all - we both seem a little happier.

I let out a squeal today when I saw the documentary was available on Netflix. I know it will reach many people and that gets me excited. In celebration of this release here are some things I learned from watching 'Minimalism: A Documentary about the Important Things'

Adding stuff in our lives is often us just trying to fill a void: This makes so much sense to me. We all want to be noticed. We all want to feel safe and loved but this comes from people and actions, not from stuff.

Sometimes out attachment to people spills over to objects

Happiness is not something that is just around the corner: As a women I cannot tell you how many times I have thought to myself 'after I lose 10 kilos then I will be happy'. Nope, I can be happy now just the way I am and with what I have in my life.

You can never get enough of what you don't really want

Success isn't always what you think it is: Sometimes when you have done everything you think you're supposed to (graduate high-school, uni, get well paying job, get married, furnish house) you may not feel fulfilled. Success might simply be making a stranger smile or drawing an awesome picture.

Quest after a life that is good for us and good those those around us

And finally, the duo always signs off with: Love people and use things because the opposite never works.

If you enjoyed this, please leave me a comment and if you decide to watch the documentary I would love to hear all about it.

Until next time, stay committed to your wellness.
