Non-Traditional Ways To Make Money
Many of us have that dream, that special something that we are bursting to do. Some may imagine themselves writing novels all day while sipping lattes, while others dream of running clients through a beach-side boot camp class at the crack of dawn. For myself, I wanted to get healthy. I wanted the space and time to research health modalities, cook nourishing meals, practice self-care and overall dedicate myself to my wellness.
So, I chased my dreams of improving myself by taking on a Bachelor of Behavioural Studies to learn all about the human mind and completed a year-long Health Coaching course to learn about holistic wellness. Of course, throughout my studies I still had to support myself financially, however, I really struggled with the traditional reception jobs I found myself in. I didn't like sitting at a desk for hours without a break nor did I enjoy not having wiggle room with what hours I worked. I didn't enjoy the stereotypical workplace gossip, in fact, it would often make me very upset. But there are bills to pay, right? So what is the alternative?
Trough trial and error I have found ways to support myself financially while I now building my online business and working on my health. These ways did not include any workplace bullying or involve selling out my soul (I once did a week of door to door sales. It wasn't pretty). These non-traditional ways of making money still allow me to feel like I am contributing to society, however, I get to work from home, set my own hours and no longer work for companies that I don't believe in.
NON-TRADITIONAL WAYS TO MAKE MONEY
Mystery Shopping: Since signing up with different mystery shop companies, I have made more money than I was working as a receptionist. Mystery Shopping involves visiting shops and taking notes of the customer service offered and then heading home to type up a report. Each job and company have different criteria to meet which keeps the job interesting. I have learned so many different things from pretending that I am renovating my home or opening a new bank account or looking for a make-up product (my inner actress gets to come out and play). The amazing thing is that most jobs I complete are online or over the phone so I don't even have to leave the house.
Become an ambassador: An ambassador is someone who aligns themselves with a company that they support. One of the best things about my Health Coaching course is that I had the option to sign up as an Ambassador for the school. Similarly, many companies will reach out to influencers and give them their own code for their followers to use. This is a great way for relevant businesses to support each other!
Network Marketing: Remember the Tupperware parties of the nineties? Well, the more your Aunty or neighbour sold, the more free products they would get. If you signed up to have your own party through them, they would get even more benefits. This method is called network marketing. Companies such as DoTerra, Juice+, Herbalife, USANA and more offer these network marketing opportunities, and if you are willing to put in the hard work, you can become very successful. While network marketing can leave a sour taste in some peoples mouths (good lord just don't bring up Amway) I believe that if you find a product that you truly love, why the hell not sell it to others? What a great way for stay at home mums and those living with chronic health-blocks to make money and set their own hours.
Make money when you shop: Companies such as ShopBack offer you the opportunity to make a percentage back on what you buy if you shop through their links. This works great as a nice little pay out every now and again, as long as you are not encouraged to spend more trying to make more.
Affiliate Links: Gone of the days where you have to stand in a shop for 10 hours a day and sell products you have no passion for (I once sold gym memberships in a shopping centre, again, it wasn't pretty). Have you ever noticed that I have a musings page on my website? Companies such as Amazon offer the opportunity to sign up as an affiliate, where you can make a small commission off the links you share. I personally love the idea that I can recommend products that has truly improved my wellness to others, all while receiving an incentive from that company for sharing.
What do you think of these non-traditional ways to make money while you go after your dreams? Are you going to try any of these methods? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
Much love,
